Caloundra Events Centre
Caloundra Events Centre wanted to refurbish their outdated change rooms so they engaged us to demolish the old change rooms in the Play House and in the Auditorium and construct new ones. One of the Council’s requirements was that the Events Centre must remain open during the refurbishments and events would continue to run so it was vital that we managed our schedule in and around the Events Centre schedule and minimise disruption to staff and general public.
Because we were doing construction work in an operational public venue there were a number of potential risks that we needed to manage including safe removal of asbestos, safe demolition, and planning in and around events.
We managed these risks through:
- Minimising noise and use of jack hammers at key times.
- Doing construction in stages to work around current events.
- Strong planning to ensure we fit our plans to Event Centre’s schedule
- Good communication and planning with the Events Centre General Manager
- Weekly meetings with the Events Centre to show progress and address issues
“It was a pleasure to project manage Shadforth Lythgo as the contractor conducting these 4 x Change room Refurbishments. (Main and Playhouse Theatre). The Events Centre has very high expectation with regards to quality finishes, and these expectations were met. The contractor accommodated the needs of unplanned events at the Centre, and always worked with TEC staff to meet the ongoing needs, even on short notice.
The cooperation and professionalism experienced throughout this project was exemplary, and is exhibited through the high quality workmanship and presentation of the resulting change rooms.
Dean Lythgo, the project foreman continually communicated progress; potential issues; project milestones; and managed the discovery of asbestos and non-compliant plumbing works quickly, economically and efficiently to ensure the very tight timeframes of the project would be met amidst the unplanned –unscheduled works….
If Shadforth Lythgo are afforded further contracts with Council, then I am confident that the above will be the reflected result for the project manager, client and project outcome.”
